Bootle’s young heroes recognised at Ykids Believe Awards!!
16 remarkable children have received awards at the 4th annual Ykids Believe Awards. The awards which took place on May 21st, were set up by the charity to recognise young people who are ‘World changers’; who despite adversity are an inspiration to those around them for their courage, selflessness and perseverance. The glittering event which was held at The Isla Gladstone in Stanley Park was attended by 150 guests and hosted by Claire ‘Simmo’ Simonsen of Radio City.
Ykids CEO Claire Morgans said “The night was about celebrating the wonderful unsung heroes of Bootle”, she continued, “We are so privileged and honoured to work in Bootle amongst so many bright shining stars”.
Children were nominated by their schools, communities, friends and families, and winners included twin brother Liam & Joe Riley who do so much work for their local community, and Yasmine Chopra, age 6, who after her Nan was diagnosed with lung cancer, she raised £300 for the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation by running 1 Kilometre, as well as raising funds for the Ebola crisis.
The moving stories touched the hearts of the guests, and throughout the evening Radio City presenter Claire Simmo struggled to old back the emotion, “These young people are remarkable in their own way” “We’re stunned by their courage and selflessness; they are a shining example”
Other winners included Dana Palmer who is constantly putting the needs of others before herself, and Peter Baker who always shows great courage, compassion, and maturity.
This year a new award was introduced – ‘ The One To Watch Award’, Daniel Wright of Linacre Primary School was presented with this award. After reading so many entries the judges were so impressed by Daniel’s story that in recognition of his achievements this award was created.
The event was made possible by the local businesses who sponsored the awards including One Vision Housing, Peel Ports, and the Strand Shopping Centre. Local businesses including Liverpool FC, Everton FC, The Malmaison Hotel, and Harrison Hair Studio Bootle, donated items towards a prize draw.
“Young people so often get a bad press’ said Claire Morgans ‘but when you see the selflessness of these young people it puts us to shame. They are such a great example to us all.’
